가나는 아프리카 대륙에서 민주주의를 굳건히 정착시켜 온 나라입니다. 식민 지배의 아픔과 독재의 시기를 극복하고, 국민의 힘으로 민주주의를 일궈 온 가나의 여정은 대한민국이 걸어온 길과도 닮아 있습니다.

한국을 방문한 존 드라마니 마하마 가나 대통령과 만나, 경제, 안보, 농업, 교육, 문화, 핵심 광물 등 다양한 분야에서 양국 국민의 삶에 도움이 될 협력 방안을 함께 논의했습니다.

온실가스 국제감축사업 기반 마련과 AI, 디지털 기술 분야의 교육 및 직업훈련 등 미래지향적인 협력도 함께 강화해 나가기로 뜻을 모았습니다.

특별히 그동안 가나 해군이 기니만에서 우리 선원과 국민의 안전을 지키기 위해 기울여 준 노력에 대해 깊은 감사를 전했습니다. 이번 정상회담을 통해 체결된 '해양안보협력 양해각서'는 양국의 해양 치안 협력을 한층 더 견고하고 체계적으로 발전시키는 계기가 될 것입니다.

대한민국과 가나는 민주주의, 자유, 인권이라는 보편적 가치를 공유하는 든든한 친구이자 믿음직한 동반자입니다. 앞으로도 두 나라가 손을 맞잡고, 국제사회의 평화와 번영을 위해 함께 나아가길 기대합니다.

아울러 이번 만남을 통해 쌓은 우정과 신뢰가 양국의 협력을 더욱 단단하게 이어주고, 두 나라 국민 모두에게 희망의 결실로 돌아오리라 믿습니다.

〈Korea-Ghana Summit: Starting Point for Building the Future Together〉

​Ghana has been a firm anchor of democracy on the African continent. Having overcome the painful periods of colonial rule and dictatorship to build democracy through the power of its people, Ghana’s journey deeply resonates with the path Korea has traveled.

​I had the pleasure of meeting H.E. President John Dramani Mahama during his visit to Korea, where we discussed cooperation in various fields that will contribute to the well-being of our peoples, including the economy, security, agriculture, education, culture, and critical minerals.

​We agreed to strengthen future-oriented cooperation, such as establishing a foundation for international greenhouse gas reduction projects and providing education and vocational training in AI and digital technologies.

​I also expressed my deep gratitude for the Ghana Navy’s dedicated efforts to ensure the safety of our sailors and citizens in the Gulf of Guinea. The ‘Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Maritime Safety and Security’ signed during this summit will serve to further develop our maritime law enforcement cooperation in a more robust and systematic way.

Korea and Ghana are supportive friends and trustworthy partners who share the universal values of democracy, freedom, and human rights. I look forward to our two nations continuing to walk hand-in-hand toward peace and prosperity for the international community.

I am confident that the friendship and trust built through this summit will further solidify the bonds between our two countries and bear the fruits of hope for all our people.
