대한민국과 뉴질랜드의 인연은 매우 깊습니다. 6·25전쟁 당시 뉴질랜드는 수교조차 하지 않은 머나먼 대한민국에 파병해 자유민주주의 수호에 함께 힘을 보탰습니다. 뉴질랜드의 숭고한 헌신을 결코 잊지 않을 것입니다.

전쟁의 상처를 극복하며 쌓아 올린 우리의 우정은 경제, 문화, 사회 등 다양한 분야에서 폭넓게 발전했습니다. 특히 최근 국방·방산 분야에서의 협력을 확대하며 튼튼한 미래를 함께 그려가고 있어 참 뜻깊습니다.

무엇보다 오늘 크리스토퍼 럭슨 뉴질랜드 총리와의 정상회담을 통해 '포괄적 전략 동반자 관계'로 한층 더 발전하기로 합의한 점을 기쁘게 생각합니다.

불확실하고 복잡한 국제 정세 속에서도 서로 의지하고 협력하며, 양국 모두에게 이익이 되는 미래를 함께 만들어 나가겠습니다. 앞으로도 변함없는 우정이 이어지길 희망합니다.

 The bond between Korea and New Zealand runs deep. During the Korean War, New Zealand deployed combat troops to Korea, a distant country with which New Zealand had not yet established diplomatic relations, standing with us in defense of freedom and democracy. We will never forget New Zealand’s noble sacrifice.

Our friendship, forged while overcoming the scars of war, has since flourished in a variety of areas such as the economy, culture, and society. It is especially meaningful that our cooperation in defense and related industries has expanded in recent years, paving the way for a better future for our two countries.

Most importantly, I am delighted that, through my summit with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon today, we agreed to elevate our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Despite an uncertain and complex international landscape, Korea and New Zealand will continue to rely on each other and work together to build a future that benefits both nations. I hope our steadfast friendship endures for many years to come.
