한국과 라오스는 1995년 재수교 이후 교역과 투자, 인적 교류 등 다양한 분야에서 의미 있는 성과를 만들어 왔습니다. 

수교 당시와 비교하면 양국 간 교역 규모는 약 20배 가까이 확대되었고, 라오스를 찾는 우리 국민도 꾸준히 늘어나 지난해 상호 방문객 수가 역대 최고치를 기록했습니다.

오늘날 한국은 라오스의 3대 개발협력 파트너이자 5위 투자국으로 자리 잡았으며, 라오스는 한-아세안, 한-메콩 협력의 핵심 파트너로서 중요한 역할을 해주고 있습니다.

우리는 오랜 신뢰에 기반해 양국 관계를 ‘포괄적 동반자 관계’로 격상하는 데 합의했습니다. 

통룬 시술릿 라오스 국가주석의 이번 방한은 12년 만의 공식 방문이자, 재수교 30주년을 기념해 이루어진 일정이라 더욱 뜻깊습니다.

풍부한 천연자원을 보유한 라오스는 내륙 국가라는 지리적 한계를 오히려 기회로 삼아 역내 교통·물류 허브로 도약하고자 하는 비전을 갖고 있습니다. 

한국은 라오스의 도전과 노력이 결실을 맺을 수 있도록 든든한 동반자로서 적극 지원할 것입니다.

아울러 라오스를 찾는 우리 국민들의 안전을 지키고, 초국가적 범죄에 체계적으로 대응하기 위해 우리 대사관과 라오스 당국 간 핫라인을 설치할 계획입니다. 

범죄인 인도 조약과 형사사법공조 조약을 체결해 법·제도적 협력의 기반도 한층 강화했습니다.

우리는 앞으로도 더욱 다양한 영역에서 협력을 지속적으로 확대하며, 양국 국민이 일상에서 직접 체감할 수 있는 성과를 만들어 나가자고 다짐했습니다.

Since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations in 1995, the Republic of Korea and the Lao PDR have achieved meaningful progress in various fields, 

including trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges. Compared to 30 years ago, bilateral trade has grown nearly twentyfold, 

and the number of Korean nationals visiting Laos has continued to grow, reaching a record high in mutual visits last year.

Today, Korea has become the Lao PDR’s third-largest development cooperation partner and fifth-largest investor, 

and Laos is a key partner in ASEAN-ROK and Mekong-ROK cooperation.

Building on the long-standing trust between our two countries, we agreed to elevate our bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership. 

President Thongloun Sisoulith’s visit to Korea is particularly meaningful, 

marking the first official visit by a President of Laos in 12 years and commemorating the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.

Blessed with abundant natural resources, Laos is pursuing a vision of turning its geographic constraint as a landlocked country into a strength,

transforming into a regional hub for transportation and logistics. 

Korea will stand as a reliable partner and continue to provide active support in Laos's journey to achieve this vision.

In addition, to ensure the safety of Korean nationals visiting Laos and to intensify our efforts in combating transnational crimes, 

we will establish a hotline between the Korean Embassy and the relevant authorities of Laos. 

We also concluded an Extradition Treaty and a Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, 

strengthening the legal and institutional framework of our cooperation.

We reaffirmed our commitment to further expanding our cooperation across a broader range of areas and to delivering outcomes that bring tangible benefits to our peoples.
